Job summary

MUM Industries in Mentor, OH is seeking an experienced welder to join our Welding Department. You will weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using TIG, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and other processes, ensuring quality and adherence to drawings.

First shift hours, Monday through Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm, with a hourly wage of $22.00–$27.00. Ideal candidate has at least 2 years of welding experience and strong safety awareness.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience welding in a manufacturing environment or equivalent training/education.
  • At least 2 years experience welding aluminum sheet metal.
  • Considerable knowledge of TIG welding principles and practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts using straightedges, squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Examine workpieces for defects and ensure conformance to specifications by measuring with straightedges or templates.

  • Mark or tag material with job numbers and other identifying marks as required.
  • Maintain organized, clean work area and set up/maintain equipment, gas, and proper rod selection for production consistency.

Schedule

Hours: First Shift - Monday through Friday 6:00am-2:30pm

Position Summary

Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using a variety of welding processes such as TIG, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, plasma arc, resistance, and submerged arc welding.

Responsibilities
  • Operate safety equipment and employ safe work habits.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Examine workpieces for defects and ensure conformance to specifications by measuring with straightedges or templates.
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding charts, metal types, and thicknesses.
  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
  • Connect and adjust regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure for desired flame.
  • Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Assist other TIG welders when needed.
  • Maintain organized, clean work area and set up/maintain equipment, settings, gas, and proper rod selection for production consistency.
