Job summary

Amentum is seeking an experienced precision welder to support small‑prototype fabrication. You will weld various metals to tight tolerances, operate arc, gas, TIG brazing equipment, and use CNC knowledge as required.

This role requires seven years of direct welding experience, HS diploma or trade training, ability to obtain credentials, a valid driver’s license, and the capacity to work in a fast‑paced environment with strict safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical training preferred.
  • Seven years of direct welding experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain facility credentials; US citizenship may be required for credentials.
  • Must read, write and understand English.
  • Licenses/certifications as needed to perform duties.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate government vehicle.
  • Ability to pass medical examinations and security clearance as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and use standard tools safely.

Responsibilities

  • Weld various metals within tolerances around 0.005 inches.
  • Assemble welded parts into machine components per layouts or blueprints.
  • Perform thermal cutting, grinding, repairs, and brazing as needed.
  • Locate and repair cracks in engine parts; pass required certifications.
  • Operate machine shop equipment and CNC devices where applicable.
  • Review engineering designs to address metal structural issues.

Job description

Performs precision welding functions supporting small/prototype fabrication efforts. Conducts expert metal welding and cutting within exact, specific tolerances.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Weld various types of metals, generally holding tolerances within 0.005 inches.
  • Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment
  • Welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
  • May locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch, may perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations
  • Properly operate machine shop equipment with optimum use of raw materials.
  • Analyze engineering designs to solve or provide insight into metal structural issues.
  • Hold or obtain appropriate industry certifications.
  • Research innovations from external sources and applies to internal projects or processes.
  • Create new methods and procedures to achieve work goals.

Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational/technical training beyond high school.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of direct job-experience or an equivalentcombination of education, specialized training, and hands‑on experience.
  • Operating knowledge of precision sheet metal welding, high vacuum tungsten inert gas welding, shielded metal arc welding, soldering and operating knowledge of CNC equipment is required
  • Must have or be able to obtain licenses/certifications as needed to perform duties.
  • Must have a valid and current state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to operate a government general‑purpose vehicle
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a forklift license
  • Must be able to complete paperwork associated with the position as required
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, complex environment
  • Must be able to read and understand Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, Army Regulations and Department of the Army Pamphlets
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must have an ability to meet physical demands and pass any related medical examination requirements required to perform daily assigned tasks
  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • May need the ability to obtain and maintain a government Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Position may require travel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
  • Must utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices.
  • Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles of various sizes and heights
  • Must be able to work under pressure and strenuous conditions.
  • Must be able to meet short suspense dates.
  • Must be able to conduct work in the out-of-doors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions (i.e. extreme temperatures, high humidity, rain and blowing dust).
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of stooping; climbing; standing; and sitting for long periods of uninterrupted time.
  • May require shift work.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • During the usual work period, the worker may be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable.
