Key Job Elements

1. Weld locomotive parts/heavy plate metal such as under frame structures, end plates, draft gear pockets;
2. Perform single- and multi-pass welds in all positions;
3. Repair welds (using grinders, cutting torches, gouging equipment and other tools);
4. Stick weld parts;
5. Ensure welders parameters are programmed;
6. Fit, weld, air test parts;
7. Operate cranes/jib cranes;
8. Read and interpret weld reference documentation and assembly instructions;
9. Participate in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.

Education / Training

Welding School Certification preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

1. GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) all-position welding skills;
2. Ability to read and interpret blue prints/weld symbols;
3. Familiar with use of industrial equipment (gas cutting, hand grinders, mechanical tools);
4. Problem solving skills;
5. Solid mathematical skills;
6. Ability to meet physical demands of the job without or with reasonable accommodation;
7. Safety-aware, quality-focused, continuous improvement-oriented.
