Job summary

Hennig in Illinois is seeking a Welder II – Base Welder to independently perform base-welding operations, interpret base-weld prints, position components, and produce quality welds that meet print, dimensional, and production requirements. You will inspect completed welds, perform repairs as needed, and operate welding and material-handling equipment, while maintaining shop safety and 5S standards.

Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma/GED, D1.1 Flat certification within 30 days,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• D1.1 Flat certification within 30 days of starting position.
• 3–5 years experience as a MIG welder and at least 1 year in a manufacturing environment.
• Must be able to read and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Operate base welding operations and interpret base-weld prints to position components and produce welds according to specifications.
• Inspect completed welds and perform repairs as needed to ensure dimensional and quality requirements.
• Set up and operate welding, fabrication, and material-handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Identify and verify components against fabrication requirements and read base-weld fabrication prints.
• Adhere to safety, 5S practices, and work independently with minimal supervision.

Description

As a Welder II – Base Welder, you will independently perform base-welding operations while meeting established print, dimensional, quality, and production requirements. You will interpret base-weld prints, identify and position components, produce quality welds, inspect completed work, perform weld repairs, and use welding and material-handling equipment required throughout the base fabrication process.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma/GED required
• Certifications: D1.1 Flat certification within 30 days of starting position
• Experience: 3-5 years experience as a MIG welder and one year of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment required
• Reading Ability: Must be able to read and understand English

Skills:

• Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions and established procedures.
• Proficiency in MIG welding, fabrication, fit-up, and base-welding techniques.
• Ability to independently and safely set up and operate welding, fabrication, and base work-center equipment to established specifications.
• Ability to locate, read, and interpret base-weld fabrication prints, including required weld types, locations, and lengths.
• Ability to identify base components and verify parts against fabrication requirements.
• Ability to accurately position, fit, and align base components using levels, squares, and other measuring tools.
• Ability to produce quality welds while preventing undercut, porosity, and other unacceptable weld conditions.
• Ability to inspect completed welds and identify welding or fabrication conditions requiring correction.
• Proficiency in weld repair techniques for base-welding operations.
• Ability to independently verify completed work against fabrication prints, dimensional specifications, and workmanship requirements.
• Ability to work independently with little to no routine assistance.
• Ability to safely operate crane equipment after required training and certification to position base components.
• Understanding of welding PPE, shop safety, material-handling practices, and 5S requirements.
• Ability to safely work around forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment.
• Ability to complete assigned work within established production and takt-time requirements.
• Ability to lift and handle parts weighing up to 40 pounds and work with team members to handle larger parts.
