Job summary

PlayCore is seeking welders to read fabrication prints, set up parts in fixtures, and perform gas welding per diagrams and work orders. Responsibilities include selecting materials, connecting gas lines, lighting the torch, welding joints, inspecting welds, and maintaining post-job cleanliness. Minimal travel is required.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and 1–3 months of related experience or training. Proficiency with MS Office is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets fabrication prints or specs to determine sequence and methods.
• Positions parts in jigs or fixtures and clamps as per layout.
• Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux per welding chart specifications.
• Connects regulator valves, lights torch and adjusts gas mix for welds.
• Welds long vertical or overhead lines and inspects bead size to spec.
• Maintains clean workspace and records job worked time in data system.

Summary

Welds metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets fabrication prints or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, welding, or assembling structural steel products.
• Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.
• Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.
• Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and welding torch.
• Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure to obtain desired flame.
• Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld.
• Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.
• Applies flux to workpiece instead of filler rod.
• Preheats workpiece in furnace or with torch.
• Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces.
• Welds long vertical or overhead weld lines.
• Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal.
• Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
• Cleans or degreases parts.
• Maintains clean workspace.
• Scans job worked time into data collection system.
• Perform other related duties as required

Education And/or Experience

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• 1-3 months related experience and/or training; equivalent combined

Travel

This position requires minimal to no travel.
