Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Sumter, SC is seeking a Welding Technician to set up and operate welding machines, interpret blueprints, and monitor weld quality. The role includes training assembly monitors in safety and efficiency, with the ability to handle 15 lb parts and overtime as needed.

Starting pay is $19.40/hour with a pay range of $19.40–$25.20. Night shift runs M-TH, 8 pm – 6 am at Sumter Pins Facility. Benefits are available to eligible employees.

Qualifications

• Print Reading experience.
• Basic computer skills; intermediate level; able to function independently on a computer.

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

• Set-up and operate at least one of the following welding machines: Friction Welder, Inertia Welder or Automated Mig Welder
• Interpret blueprints for assembly and weld operations
• Monitor and track weld process using the ultra-sound test method on identified parts
• Train all monitor assembly associates in safety, efficiency and packing

*Ability to handle 15 lb parts

Basic qualifications

• Print Reading experience
• Basic computer skills (intermediate skill level - basic skills/knowledge - capable of functioning independently while using a computer)
• Ability to read basic gauges (caliper, ruler, height gauge)
• Ability to work with hand tools (dyna-file sanders, de-scalers, die grinder)
• Available to work overtime as needed
• Ability to understand and follow basic job instructions such as Standard Work instructions and/or Standard Operation Procedures

Top candidates will also have

• 6 months manufacturing/welding experience

Summary Pay Range

$19.40 - $25.20
