Job summary

Worley is seeking a Welder Helper for our Anchorage Fab Shop, AK facility. The role supports journeymen in setup and execution of welding tasks within a five-day schedule, no relocation or per-diem provided.

The candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, own basic hand tools, and hold a valid driver’s license. Two years in oilfield or petrochemical maintenance/construction is preferred, with Alaska trade school certification as a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must own and be equipped with usual hand tools required for Welder Helper duties.
  • Valid driver’s license including ability to be insured by Worley auto insurer.
  • Two (2) years of experience in oilfield or petrochemical plant maintenance and/or construction.
  • Graduate of a certified Alaska secondary trade school.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other matter.
  • Determine required equipment and welding methods; start up and adjust welding machines.

Description

This position is based in Anchorage at the Worley Fabrication Facility, on a 5 day a week work schedule.

Schedule subject to change pending the project(s) needs.

No relocation or per-diem is provided.

Job Purpose:

Assists the various assigned crafts journeymen in job setup and performance of work.

Essential Job Functions:

Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies. Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material.

Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.

Determine required equipment and welding methods. Start up and make adjustments to welding machines, both electrical and mechanical. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.

Set up and adjust cutting equipment, i.e., gauges, hoses, torches, for Air Carbon Arc Cutting, Plasma Arc Cutting, and Oxygen/Acetylene Cutting procedures.

Assist with chipping or grinding off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.

Assist with cutting, contouring, and beveling metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates.

Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.

Completes records and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.

Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

Perform fire watch or heater attendant duties.

Knowledge, Skills, andAbilities:

Knowledge of machines and tools used in welding, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Familiar with drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and safety data sheets to plan layout of welding operations

Ability to operate safety equipment and knowledge of safe work habits.

Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, extreme cold or heat and high noise levels. Employee will work in an environment where there is risk that they will be exposed to toxic, caustic and/or hazardous chemicals, fumes or airborne particles. Workers are required to wear personal protective equipment while on the job. The work generally requires routine walking, sitting, standing, squatting, climbing, stooping, bending, twisting, reaching and carrying items. An individual will be required to work the majority of hours in an industrial environment and will need to be able to quickly respond to a change in work demands.
