Description

Join a team of track laborers with a record of building and repairing railroad tracks for Union Pacific over 150 years! As a Track Laborer - Regional, you will play a vital role in the upkeep and enhancement of the tracks within your designated territory. By conducting essential maintenance, repairs, and installations, you will ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains, enabling Union Pacific to effectively serve its customers across North America. Accountabilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of railroad tracks, track beds, and right-of-way to identify problems or defects.
  • Perform repairs and replacements of rails, anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other components as required.
  • Assist with handling, unloading, and moving track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks, including digging holes and trenches.
  • Execute various track maintenance tasks, repairs, and installations, possibly operating heavy equipment.
  • Maintain track beds by removing vegetation and brush, and clear dust or snow from movable track parts.
  • Adhere to safety rules, practices, and procedures at all times.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers, and handle high-pressure situations effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules, safety regulations, and FRA standards.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications - Required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, safety rules, bulletins, and regulatory documents

Qualifications - Preferred
  • Possess CDL Class A or B
  • Experience working outdoors in variable weather
  • Welding experience or certification
  • Experience in construction or operating heavy equipment
  • At least 1 year in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
  • Willing to work on-call, overtime, various shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Reside within 50 miles of the job location by 60-day probation
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for more than half the workday; adjust positions for comfort
  • Lift/carry up to 65 lbs; push/pull up to 119 lbs
  • Climb ladders; maintain balance on various surfaces
  • Perform physically demanding tasks with manual dexterity
Work Conditions
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Willing to use PPE such as glasses, boots, hard hats, hearing protection
  • Available to work where willing to reside and perform duties
  • Commitment to safe work practices
  • Work near large equipment like railcars, locomotives, cranes
  • Frequent travel required
  • Reliable transportation needed
  • Work may occur in rural or remote areas
