Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking a Pipefitter/Welder Helper to assist with layout and fabrication of piping systems in our Richmond fabrication shop. You will work under experienced craftsmen on steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and industrial processing projects.

Responsibilities include selecting pipe size, cutting, threading, joining methods, operating a forklift, loading materials, and maintaining tools. A reliable transport and ability to work overtime are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of pipefitting or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends).
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Basic construction/shop math skills.
• Ability to work safely with hands and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with selecting pipe type and size per fabrication needs.
• Cut pipes using cutters, saws, torches, and cutting machines.
• Assist with threading and joining piping with various methods.
• Operate forklift to move equipment and materials.
• Load and unload materials from trucks and into buildings.
• Maintain tools and keep the work area clean and safe.
• Support senior craftsmen and follow supervision.

Job description

ColonialWebb is seeking helpers to join our Fabrication Team! As Pipefitter/welder Helper, you will assist with layout and fabrication of piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems according to specifications and codes.

Location: 2820 Ackley Avenue, Richmond, VA 23228.

Environment: Fabrication Shop.

Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, M-F.

Overview

At ColonialWebb, a full‑service MEP contractor, we pride ourselves on quality and expertise.

Responsibilities

• Assist with selecting type and size of pipe and related materials according to the product being fabricated.
• Assist with cutting pipe using pipe cutters, port‑a‑band saw, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine.
• Assist with threading pipe, using pipe threading machine.
• Assist with joining piping using welded, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
• Operate shop forklift to lift or transport equipment, material, and supplies as necessary.
• Load and unload shop materials from trucks and into buildings.
• Furnishes experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of mechanic’s tools and equipment.
• Cleans work area and restocks supplies and materials as necessary.
• Works safely, encourage others to do so, and comply with applicable health and safety‑related rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

• A reliable source of transportation to and from work.
• Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
• Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands.
• Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradespeople.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
