Job summary

Zekelman Industries is seeking a Field Welder Helper for its Z Modular operations in the Greater Phoenix Area. You will support field welding by assisting with equipment setup, material prep and site organization, primarily at active construction sites with daily travel between projects.

This field role requires working outdoors in varying weather, following safety policies, and coordinating with welders to ensure efficient project progress and a safe, productive worksite culture.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred and construction experience a plus.
• Experience as a field welding helper or in industrial labor is preferred.
• Eligible to work in the United States and safety‑minded.

Responsibilities

• Assist welders with all phases of field welding operations, including equipment setup and material preparation.
• Set up, organize, maintain, and retrieve welding support equipment and tools.
• Perform grinding, cutting, cleaning, and preparation of materials with hand and power tools.
• Complete training and perform fire watch duties during hot work, following safety procedures.
• Load, unload, transport, and organize materials and equipment for field operations.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and report maintenance or safety concerns.

About the Role

As a Field Welder Helper at Z Modular in the Greater Phoenix Area, you will play a key role in supporting field welding operations by assisting with equipment setup, material preparation, material handling, and job site organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, values safety, thrives in outdoor construction environments, and takes pride in contributing to successful project execution.

This is a field‑based position, with work performed primarily at active construction sites throughout the Greater Phoenix area. Candidates should expect daily travel between project locations and must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Occasional to frequent national travel may be required based on project needs and future assignments.

What You’ll Do

• Assist welders with all phases of field welding operations, including equipment setup, material preparation, and task execution.
• Set up, organize, maintain, and retrieve welding support equipment, including welding machines, leads, extension cords, and related tools.
• Perform grinding, cutting, cleaning, and preparation of raw and installed materials using hand and power tools.
• Complete training and perform fire watch responsibilities during hot work activities, including monitoring work areas for potential hazards and following established safety and emergency procedures.
• Load, unload, transport, stage, and organize materials and equipment to support field operations.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas by properly storing tools, equipment, materials, and debris at the end of each shift.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervision.
• Work safely in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions while adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a willingness to accept coaching and feedback while supporting project and team objectives.
• Maintain regular, full‑time, predictable onsite attendance and perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous construction, welding helper, manufacturing, industrial labor, or related experience preferred.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Basic knowledge of construction and industrial safety practices.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, grinders, cutting tools, and other construction equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to identify workplace hazards and respond appropriately.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
• Ability to accept direction, coaching, and constructive feedback.
• Ability to travel regularly throughout the Greater Phoenix area, with occasional to frequent national travel as business needs require.

Physical Abilities

• Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push or pull loads up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
• Ability to work safely outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain.
• Strong balance, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
• Ability to meet visual and auditory acuity requirements.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
