Job summary

Zekelman Industries, including Z Modular, is hiring a Welder for our onsite shop in Killeen, Texas. You will fabricate metal components for modular building systems, using MIG, TIG, and arc welding, following precise drawings and specs.

This full-time role requires strong accuracy, safety adherence, and teamwork in a manufacturing setting. You’ll contribute to high-quality builds and continuous improvement, with opportunities for growth and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; welding certificate preferred.
  • At least 3 years welding experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or construction.
  • Ability to read blueprints and weld symbols accurately.
  • Comfort with lifting up to 80 lbs and standing for long periods.
  • US work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts using measuring tools and fixtures.
  • Examines workpieces and verifies conformance to specifications using precision measuring devices.
  • Welds aluminum, stainless steel, and cast iron using MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
  • Clamps, tacks, and grinds parts to achieve required configurations prior to final welding.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and welding symbols to plan operations.
  • Monitors welding processes to prevent overheating or distortion of parts.
  • Develops templates and models from engineering drawings for fabrication.

Job Description
About the Role

As a Welder at Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in fabricating high-quality metal components used in our modular building systems. This position requires precision, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to safety and quality standards. You will perform a variety of welding operations using multiple techniques, ensuring each product meets engineering and production specifications. You will collaborate closely with team members across production and assembly areas to ensure seamless project execution. This is a full-time, onsite position located in Killeen, TX. Shift: 6am - 2:30pm. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment, and enjoys problem-solving through technical skill and teamwork.

What You’ll Do
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies using measuring tools and fixtures.
  • Examines workpieces and verifies conformance to specifications using precision measuring devices.
  • Welds a variety of metals and alloys including aluminum, stainless steel, and cast iron.
  • Clamps, tacks, and grinds parts to achieve required configurations prior to final welding.
  • Determines appropriate equipment and welding methods based on technical drawings and material properties.
  • Monitors welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, or distortion of parts.
  • Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment including MIG, TIG, and arc welding systems.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, work orders, and specifications to plan welding operations.
  • Develops templates and models based on engineering drawings for accurate fabrication.
  • Operates metal shaping, straightening, and bending machinery as needed.
  • Promotes and maintains safe work practices in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
  • Maintains full-time, predictable onsite attendance as an essential job function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of welding experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or construction environments.
  • Welding certificate preferred.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Strong working knowledge of welding processes, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret weld symbols accurately.
  • Skilled in using measuring tools; able to add and subtract fractions.
  • Committed to workplace safety and adherence to PPE requirements.
  • Excellent balance, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Capable of lifting up to 80 lbs and standing for extended periods.
