Job summary

Gem Equipment Of Oregon in Mt. Angel, OR is seeking a Welder/Fabricator to produce and assemble stainless steel components and equipment using welders, cutters, shapers, and measuring tools in accordance with blueprints and customer specs.

Set up and operate welding equipment to ensure precise, high‑quality fabrication. The role supports a day shift with 2–4 years of welding/fabrication experience, MIG/TIG proficiency, and basic blueprint reading.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; a vocational welding program is a plus.
  • Vocational/technical training in welding or metal fabrication, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications in MIG or TIG welding and OSHA 10 or 30 are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Weld and fabricate projects according to specifications and under the direction of Lead and Senior Lead Welders/Fabricators, as well as the Production Manager.
  • Ensure all projects are completed accurately and meet GEM Equipment’s quality standards.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with lead workers and supervisors to ensure the accuracy and quality of the final product.
  • Possess and maintain all required basic tools as listed on the company tool list.
  • Possess and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel‑toed boots and safety glasses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

This position is responsible for producing and assembling stainless steel components, structures, and equipment using welders, cutters, shapers, and measuring tools in accordance with blueprints, as well as employer and customer specifications. The Welder/Fabricator also sets up, operates, and maintains welding equipment to ensure precise and high‑quality fabrication work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Weld and fabricate projects according to specifications and under the direction of Lead and Senior Lead Welders/Fabricators, as well as the Production Manager.

Qualifications
Education Requirement
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Vocational or technical training in welding, metal fabrication, or a related trade; or equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus but not required.
  • Certifications in MIG or TIG welding and OSHA 10 or 30 for safety awareness is advantageous.
Skills Requirement
Welding Skills
  • Proficient in MIG welding, including both hard wire and flux core techniques.
  • Self‑sufficient in TIG welding, capable of producing quality welds without supervision.
Fabrication Skills
  • Skilled in layout work for fabrication projects.
  • Capable of assembling small projects such as frames, handrails, and similar structures.
Blueprint Reading Skills
  • Able to read and interpret basic blueprints, including standard symbols and notations.
  • Willingness and ability to learn the GEM Equipment print system, including materials lists, ballooning, title blocks, and scale interpretation.
  • Proficient in navigating the M1 system to ensure accurate tracking of parts and job progress.
Field Work (if applicable)
  • Ability to develop rigging skills.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while working in the field.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and develop situational awareness in various field environments.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of field‑specific skills and safety protocols.
Additional Skills and Expectations
  • Proper use of fabrication tools and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Strong understanding of safety expectations and requirements.
Experience
  • 2‑4 years of experience in welding and fabrication.
  • Strong working knowledge of MIG and/or TIG welding and the ability to follow specifications and blueprints.
  • Some experience with quality control procedures, material handling, and documentation (e.g., QC forms, inventory slips).
  • Able to communicate effectively, take direction, and contribute to a team‑oriented environment.
  • Familiar with and adheres to safety practices, tool usage, and job site etiquette.
  • Capable of working independently on assigned tasks, but not yet in a leadership or mentoring role.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing – 5‑6 hours per day.
