Job summary

ProFrac in Fruita, CO is seeking an experienced welder to perform welding and fabrication of steel trailers and related components according to client specs. You will weld in all positions and interpret blueprints, ensuring quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must be AWS D.1.1 certified (this will be done as part of the Hiring process)
• Proficient reading and interpreting blueprints, welding process specifications and welding symbols
• Ability to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments
• Able to weld in all positions with good penetration and quality
• Capable of using measuring tools (tape measure, level, square) and basic hand tools
• Familiarity with safety practices and PPE in a warehouse setting

Responsibilities

• Weld components in all positions: flat, vertical or overhead
• Monitor fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating, warping or distortion
• Examine work pieces for defects and ensure conformance with specifications
• Prepare work according to blueprints
• Layout, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly using measuring tools
• Report non-conforming material to Welding & Fabrication Lead
• Complete housekeeping and maintain safe work practices
• Unload, count and sign receiving documents for steel
• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of a welder is the welding and fabrication of steel products such as trailers made to clients’ specifications, frames, components and accessories. Welds and assembles metal components to effect repairs to trailers and other similar equipment.

Job Description/Expectations:

• Maintain work area to be clean, organized, and safe following 5S standards.
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner that represents a positive image of FHE.
• Must attend work as established by employer without excessive absenteeism.
• Weld components in all positions: flat, vertical or overhead.
• Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material.
• Examine work pieces for defects, and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Prepare work according to blueprints.
• Layout, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers.
• Report all non-conforming material to the Welding & Fabrication Lead immediately.
• Ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencing.
• Comply with safe work practices, standards and procedures of FHE’s Health and Safety manual.
• Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when required.
• Complete assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications.
• Unload, count and sign receiving documents for steel received/delivered to the shop.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Expertise:

• Must be AWS D.1.1 certified (this will be done as part of the Hiring process)
• Possess a solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications and welding symbols.
• Must be able to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes.
• Must have the ability to weld in all positions with good penetration and quality.
• Must be able to: use a disc grinder to smooth out, weld or grind parts prior to welding, grind or clean weld joint of work piece, repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
• Must be able to fabricate new or replacement parts for trailers.
• Must be able to assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
• Must be able to read a tape measure, level, and square.
• Ability and willingness to follow directions as well as the ability to work independently.

Environmental Conditions and Work Environment:

• Exposure to certain contaminants, at times.
• Exposure to loud noise levels, at times.
• This position works in a warehouse setting, with outdoor exposure during the workday.

Tools and Equipment Used:

May be required to operate forklift to maneuver parts at times, operate overhead crane, sanders, various welding equipment and tools, grinders, generators, wrenches, common hand and power tools.

Physical Demands:

• This position requires continual use of your hands, considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
• Climbing on ladders, working on scaffolds to assemble structures or working in confined spaces, may be required at times.
• The use of safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel toed shoes, gloves, helmets, fire resistant clothing and hearing protections is utilized daily.
• Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds without physical restrictions.
