Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands in Houston is seeking a welder/fitter to join our manufacturing team. The base pay rate is $21.50 per hour for day shift (6:00 AM–2:30 PM), with overtime depending on workload. You will read blueprints, set weld parameters, operate equipment, and maintain bead quality.

Ideal candidates have an associate degree or 1–3 years welding experience, can lift up to 50 pounds, and can operate a forklift. Safety, accuracy, and punctuality in a busy plant are essential.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school; or 1–3 years welding experience; or equivalent combination.
• Read blueprints and drawings.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety and operating manuals and standard procedures.
• Effective communication one-on-one and in small groups.
• Perform general mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, division).
• Must use power hand tools.
• Must be able to drive a forklift.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Lift up to 50 pounds continually.

Responsibilities

• Know and follow all safety rules in a manufacturing environment.
• Coordinate welder settings, gun speed/travel, and gas flow with bead condition.
• Read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standards.
• Adjust welding parameters as needed.
• Repair pin holes and burn-through on auto welders.
• Train others in welding procedures according to procedures.
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment.
• Maintain bead quality to specified shapes and penetrations.
• Maintain correct numeric/alphabetic sequences.
• Support continuous improvement in the work area.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Team Leader.

Job Description

Base pay rate is $21.50 per hour

Day Shift: 6:00AM - 2:30PM

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment
• Responsible for coordination of welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with the observed condition of bead
• Read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standard
• Decide when adjustment or gun manipulation needs to be altered
• Decide how much and what repairs to make for pin holes and burn-through caused by an auto welder
• Train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment
• Responsible for holding beads to specified shapes, sizes, and penetrations while maintaining the quality of the product
• Keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in thework area
• May be assigned other projects and duties as designated by Team Leader

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year College or technical school; or (1) to three (3) years working experience in welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience as a welder/fitter in the manufacturing industry
• Read blueprints and drawings
• Read and comprehend documents including but not limited to policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence
• Ability to communicate information effectively one-on-one and in small group situations and settings is required
• Perform general mathematic calculations including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and division
• Required to use power hand tools
• Required to drive a forklift
• Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist

This is a position with the potential overtime. The shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours long depending on work orders for the day and season of the year.
