Overview

Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is currently seeking Carmen Level 1 in St. Joseph, MO.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Be able to demonstrate the skills to pass an AWS D15.1 welding certification test within 30 calendar days of employment using E 71 Ti Flux Core wire and Co2 for a shielding gas.
  • Must be able to perform some general repairs aided by a more skilled carmen/welder.
  • Jack cars, disassemble truck components and reassemble in a timely and safe manner.
  • Remove and reassemble raft components in a timely and safe manner.
  • Operate an air arc and plasma cutter.
  • Must come to work and be efficient, quality-minded and very safety-driven.
  • Positive Attitude.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and Predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must be experienced in FCAW process, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions.
  • Must be able to pass AWS D15.1 weld test.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 16’ and in small tight places.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and prior experience fitting metal is a plus.
  • Company provides required Personal Protective Equipment including a Safety Boots Allowance Program.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.

  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety-sensitive work environment.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. overhead; occasionally carry weight up to 75 lbs. up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly push-pull with forces up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding with forces up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly ascend and descend steps with a height of 28 inches carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly ascend and descend a 7-rung ladder while carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequently bend, crouch, stand and sit for extended time.
  • Able to walk and work on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances while maintaining balance.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
