The Welder, Borger Refinery performs welding operations both in the shop and in the field required for all phases of maintenance and construction.

The starting hourly rate ranges from $40.03 to $50.49, depending on skills and experience. Employees have the opportunity to reach the top craft pay of $54.58 per hour within 48 months.

Candidates who receive an offer of employment will then be required to successfully complete a pre-employment due diligence process including background check, hair follicle drug screen, medical, hearing, respiratory and vision exams, and agility testing.

What You’ll Do

• Fabricate or make repairs to vessels, tanks, exchangers, piping system or other equipment that requires repair in the field
• Weld all materials commonly found in a refinery such as carbon steel, chrome, stainless, cast iron, Monel, Hastelloy, and aluminum; must be code certified
• Fabricate pipe spools or piping systems from engineering drawings, layout and fabricate stub-ins, offsets and laterals, and make weld repairs by cladding, patching, banding, and installing couplings
• Weld in all work positions using SMAW and GTAW processes, Metallic Inert Gases (MIG), use large hydraulic and pneumatic tools, and operate motorized and manual equipment

What You’ll Bring – Required Qualifications

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Currently hold (and able to maintain) valid driver's license
• Willing and able to comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Work shift schedule when required due to business need, including but not limited to days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shift
  • Work overtime
  • Work in enclosed/confined spaces, such as tanks and silos
  • Work near large, hot, high-speed machines
  • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Climb up to 250 feet in height
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Perform firefighting duties
  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
  • Wear fall protection when working at height and when required by corporate policy, local policy, and/or OSHA regulation
  • Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and high temperature
  • Able to read at a level to understand technical procedures, documents, and materials
  • Learn computer software associated with process operations

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred Qualifications

• 2 or more years of Military experience as a welder
• Technical certification for Welder (or higher) or code certified with minimum of 2 years of directly applicable equivalent work experience
• 2 or more years of direct experience working in a refinery and/or chemical industry
• 2 or more years of recent continuous full-time work experience
• Experience with SAP's Maintenance Module or other ERP Maintenance modules

Compensation And Other Info

• The starting hourly rate ranges from $40.03 to $50.49, depending on skills and experience. Employees have the opportunity to reach the top craft pay of $54.58 per hour within 48 months. Pay and future pay changes are determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• The anticipated start date for this position is December 2026.
• Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
