Job summary

A leader in HVAC solutions is seeking a qualified welder in Olathe, Kansas. The successful candidate will perform tack and solid welding on stainless steel cold water basins, interpret engineering drawings, and work effectively in teams. Preferred qualifications include experience in stainless steel welding and relevant certifications. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.2 welding qualified preferred, but not required.
  • Previous stainless steel welding experience on 11 gauge through 18 gauge preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to apply shop mathematics to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for tack and solid welding of a water tight weld on Stainless Steel.
  • Interpret build orders and engineering drawings correctly.
  • Use welding equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Perform maintenance on torch when needed.

Job Description

The position will be responsible for tack and solid welding of a water tight weld on Stainless Steel Cold Water Basin. The role may assume additional duties as assigned for the complete process of the welded basin which may include performing basin modification or sub assembly to support the assembly line. The successful incumbent will be detail oriented, able to follow instructions well, and work well in a team atmosphere.

Education / Experience / Certifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required
  • AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.2 welding qualified preferred, but not required
  • Previous Stainless Steel Welding experience on 11 gauge through 18 gauge preferred, but not required
  • Previous welding experience
Activities / Tasks
  1. Pull parts
  2. Interpret build orders and engineering drawings correctly
  3. Reference engineering drawings to perform solid or tack welding
  4. Use welding equipment, tape measures, and hand tools safely and effectively
  5. Put on cart or fixture for next station
  6. Perform maintenance on torch when needed
  7. Identify parts using the build order
  8. Measure using a tape measurer for correct position for the component being installed on the cooling tower
  9. Pick correct template in coordination with the build order or engineering drawing
  10. Accurately perform any necessary cutting within the cooling tower by using the correct template and appropriate cutting tool (reference assembly manual for modification instructions)
  11. Grind edges using grinder
  12. Perform welding based upon tower and/or engineering specs
  13. Perform leak testing
  14. Use an overhead crane
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to adapt to change and flex his/her work at appropriate times so as to support the assembly process
  • Ability to correctly use measuring tools and grinder
  • Ability to correctly use crane and air float
  • Ability to correctly and safely use other hand tools (both manual and pneumatic)
  • Ability to read a tape measure in metric and imperial standards
  • Ability to apply shop mathematics to solve problems
  • Ability to plan work and select proper tools
  • Ability to compare and accurately determine difference in size, shape, and form of objects
  • Ability to work within precise limits and/or standards of accuracy
  • Ability to interpret build orders and engineering drawings correctly
  • Ability to operate impact gun and torque wrench
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow and understand directions
Physical Demands
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds; 50+ pounds with assistance
  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, grasping, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, twisting, reaching, working at heights, and using a ladder as required
  • Ability to use both hands overhead
  • Perform repetitive motions
  • Plant environment with potential exposure to all types of weather, including excessive heat, excessive cold, and excessive noise
