Job description

Summary

Requires precision welding of company and customer products in compliance with rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements using GTAW process. The role involves welding product parts and assemblies on flat or horizontal surfaces in accordance with customer specifications, using gas and inert gas arc welding. At least one of the following alloy groups in accordance with AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02, in Groups I, II, III, IV, and VI, is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Qualify to AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02 (Groups I, II, III, IV, VI), pass visual, radiographic and metallographic examinations, and understand all weld symbols and weld specifications.
  • Determine sequence of welding operations, tolerances, dimensional requirements and correct relationship of parts from blueprints, welding manuals and established procedures.
  • Perform difficult gas, inert gas arc or metallic arc welding of any type of metal and alloy on all surfaces (flat, horizontal, vertical, circular) in compliance with customer and engineering specifications.
  • Weld various metals and alloys used in the construction of product parts and assemblies, including:
    1. Thin materials (.010" or lighter to .100")
    2. Thin materials to castings
    3. Thick materials (.101" to .5")
    4. Close to edge (.050" or less) where edge may be readily burned off unless special care is taken
    5. Thick to thin combination
  • Weld formed parts and assemblies where surface profile, finish and contour is critical.
  • Weld tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and similar items where soundness and penetration of the weld is vital.
  • Weld parts and assemblies where heat application to surfaces is a prime factor of distortion and warping, keeping distortion to a minimum to maintain specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Layout locations of welds and set up equipment as required by written instructions.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must meet the following:

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one‑year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirements

For Welder A, one of the following must be maintained:

  • One certification in AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02 (Groups I, II, III, IV, VI).
  • Two or more certifications in AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02 (Groups I, II, III, IV, VI), with active welding of those materials (additional certifications may be required by the department).
Manufacturing Standards
  • SSP Welding Certificate
  • S Stamp
  • Minimum output of 90%
  • Minimum product quality acceptance of 95%
Compensation & Schedule

Target Hourly Rate = $19.16 – $45.18 (Grade 11)

Monday – Friday, 2nd Shift, 3:30 pm – 12:00 am
