Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands is seeking a 2nd Shift Welder/Fitter at our Monticello, IA facility. You will read blueprints, set welding parameters, and operate lifting equipment to produce accurate beads and components for Fortify Building Solutions.

The role emphasizes quality, safety, and adherence to production procedures on a 2nd shift (3:15 pm–1:45 am). Applicants should have an associate degree or welding experience; forklift and measurement tools proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or 2-year college/technical school OR 1–3 years welding experience.
• Read and interpret blueprints/drawings.
• Able to perform simple math calculations and read measurement devices.
• Must communicate effectively one-on-one and in small groups.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a continual basis.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate welding settings, gun speed/travel, and gas flow based on bead condition.
• Read tape measure and blueprints to shop standards.
• Adjust welding parameters as needed.
• Train others on welding procedures per manufacturing procedures.
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment.
• Maintain bead quality to specified shapes, sizes, and penetrations.
• Maintain production sequences and continuous improvement practices.
• May be assigned other projects by Team Leader.

JOB DETAILS

Base pay starts at $23.00 - 26.00 per hour plus $1.00 per hour shift differential

2nd Shift: 3:15 pm - 1:45 am

This position sits within our Fortify Building Solutions business, which serves the pre-engineered metal buildings, metal roof and wall systems, and steel building components industry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment
• Responsible for coordination of welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with the observed condition of bead
• Read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standard
• Decide when adjustment or gun manipulation needs to be altered
• Decide how much and what repairs to make for pin holes and burn-through caused by an auto welder
• Train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment
• Responsible for holding beads to specified shapes, sizes, and penetrations while maintaining the quality of the product
• Keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in the work area
• May be assigned other projects and duties as designated by Team Leader

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year College or technical school; or (1) to three (3) years working experience in welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience as a welder/fitter in the manufacturing industry
• Read blueprints and drawings
• Read and comprehend documents including but not limited to policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence
• Ability to communicate information effectively one-on-one and in small group situations and settings is required
• Perform general mathematic calculations including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and division.
• Required to use power hand tools
• Required to drive a forklift
• Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
• Read different measuring devices (i.e. tape measure, protractor, micrometer)
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist
