Overview

The Fabrication Welding Technician is responsible for a variety of welding duties, including performing multiple welding processes such as fusion welding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. They layout and fabricate precision weldments from blueprints using industry-standard methods, meet demands, complete work orders timely, ensure availability and proper functioning of required items, and prioritize safety by resolving safety concerns. The role involves maintaining welds on various items using processes like manual arc, TIG, MIG, brazing, cement core drilling, sheet metal, and steam-fitting, for items such as gym bleachers, safety bars, lockers, carts, steamers, tools, electric motorized gates, and recreational equipment.

Experience

• At least 3 years of experience in welding, fabrication, and design.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Job Duties

• Repair metal surfaces (e.g., doors, drain covers, fences, gates, grates, furniture, tools, parts, electric motorized gates, sheet metal) to ensure safe and efficient use.
• Install various items (e.g., backboards, serving lines, railings, fences, re-wiring trailer lights) to complete projects safely and on time.
• Maintain shop, equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure availability and safety.
• Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
• Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability.
• Assist other trades personnel as needed to support their work activities.
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
• Transport items such as tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Possess AWS Certification and skills in MIG, stick, TIG welding, fabrication, and reading blueprints.

Working Environment

The role is physically demanding, involving work in a fabrication shop with exposure to loud noises and temperature changes. It requires working in a fast-paced, high-volume, quality-controlled environment, sometimes under construction, and may involve working at heights, evenings, and weekends. Safety gear such as hard hats, safety glasses, OSHA-approved footwear, and flame-retardant clothing must be worn at all times.

Abilities

• Lift at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
• Relocate a 12-foot stepladder independently.
• Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
• Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead routinely.
• Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication skills in English.
• Use ladders and tools safely within weight limits.
• Recognize problems or potential safety issues.
• Apply rules and general principles to specific problems.
• Identify relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
