Job summary

AKG of America, Inc. in Mitchell, SD is seeking a Welder to operate welding equipment and weld tanks or other parts to the core according to blueprint instructions.

The ideal candidate will have completed a welding-focused trade school program or an apprenticeship/on-the-job training and will work on the 1st shift (6 AM–2 PM, Monday–Friday) while maintaining safe, accurate production and quality control.

Qualifications

• Formal welding concentration in a trade school program.
• Apprenticeship program and/or on-the-job training are acceptable.
• Experience or training in AKG North American Operations, Inc. or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand detailed work order instructions and blueprints.
• Move the core into and out of the welding booth using a chain hoist as needed and position on the turntable or skid when welding is completed.
• Match the correct tanks to each side of the core based on blueprint instructions.
• Tack corners and position tanks with a hammer.
• Operate welding equipment to control current/voltage and perform standard welding tasks.
• Weld additional components onto the core as required by blueprint instructions.
• Use the appropriate welding rod to weld all sides of the core and complete wash-down on each corner.
• Document and stamp the cooler once welding is finished.
• Meet production quotas set by Lead or Supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Report issues to Supervisor promptly.
• Follow AKG EMS policies and procedures.
• Maintain regular attendance per company policy.

Essential Functions

• Read and understand detailed work order instructions and blueprints.

• Tack each corner of the core and use a hammer to position the tanks properly.


• Operate welding equipment using a hand trigger to control current/voltage and perform standard welding tasks.


• Weld additional components onto the core when required by blueprint instructions.


• Use the appropriate welding rod to weld all sides of the core and complete the wash-down process on each corner.


• Document and stamp the cooler once the welding process is finished.


• Meet production quotas set by the Lead or Supervisor.


• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.


• Report any issues to the Supervisor or appropriate personnel as soon as they are identified.


• Follow all policies, procedures, and requirements outlined in AKG’s Environmental Management System (EMS).


• Maintain regular physical attendance as required for this position, following AKG attendance policy in the Employee Handbook.

Funciones esenciales

• Lea y entienda las instrucciones de trabajo y los planos.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to stand (95%) and walk (5%) of the time. May also be required to bend, stoop, pull, push, twist, and turn.


• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs (100%) of the time.


• Must be able to use a pallet jack, chain hoist, wire barrel, and welding equipment.


• Must use safety equipment such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, welding jacket, welding helmet, and gloves. All of these are provided by AKG, except for the steel toe shoes.
