Job summary

Trane Technologies in Grand Rapids is seeking a Welder to join a safety‑conscious, collaborative team. You will weld in and out of position, fabricate by hand, and participate in training for Trane and ASME/PED certifications.

The role emphasizes quality, lean practices, and cross‑functional communication. Eligible applicants must complete a welding program or equivalent, pass background/drug checks, and be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal welding program or equivalent experience.
  • Required weld processes: 2F, 2G.
  • Preferred weld processes: 3F, 3G, 4F, 4G.
  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screen.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welds in and out of position.
  • Perform hand fabrication.
  • Attend weld lab training for Trane and ASME/PED certifications as needed.
  • Receive work instructions from management or team lead.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists.
  • Perform quality checks and tests and assist in problem solving.
  • Participate in basic problem solving, 5-S, and lean activities.
  • Maintain and inspect tools and equipment and report issues as necessary.
  • Read and acknowledge work instructions electronically.
  • Communicate with cross-functional departments to ensure parts are brought to the production line in a timely manner.
  • Work any shift and overtime as necessary to meet production demands.
  • Cross-train within and outside the assigned production area.
  • Use all required personal protective equipment.
  • Comply with plant rules and policies.
  • Contribute positively to work teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What's In It For You

Trane Technologies is hiring for a Welder in Grand Rapids! You’ll play an important role on a collaborative team where safety, quality, continuous improvement, and professional growth are valued every day.

What You Will Do
  • Performs in and out of position welding.
  • Performs hand fabricating.
  • Participate in weld lab classroom training for Trane and ASME/PED certifications as needed.
  • Receives work instructions from a member of management or a team lead.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists
  • Performing quality checks and tests as well as assisting in identifying and resolving problems.
  • Must participate in basic problem solving, 5-S, and lean activities.
  • Maintain and inspect tools and equipment and escape issues as necessary.
  • Basic functional knowledge of computers and ability to read and acknowledge work instructions electronically.
  • Effectively communicate with cross-functional departments to ensure parts are brought to the production line in a timely manner.
  • Work any shift and work overtime as necessary to ensure that production demands are met.
  • Crosstrain both within and outside the assigned production area.
  • Use all required personal protective equipment.
  • Comply with all established plant rules and policies.
  • Contribute in a positive manner to the work teams in the assigned work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring
  • Completion of formal welding program or equivalent on the job experience.
  • Required Weld Process: 2F, 2G
  • Preferred Weld Process: 3F, 3G, 4F, 4G
  • Completion of company approved proficiency test prior to employment.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred but not required
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions, standard work, job breakdown sheets, and safety instructions in English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen is required.
Physical Demands
  • Independently capable of lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 35lbs
  • Physical mobility within the work facility, including repetitive bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, gripping and/or stooping.
  • Ability to work at heights both on ladders and lifts as required, while using proper fall protection.
