Job summary

EXALTA Group is seeking an experienced TIG welder to set up and operate TIG welding equipment, weld stainless steel, titanium and aluminum to exact specifications, and verify finished parts meet the required tolerances and blueprints.

The role requires 5+ years of TIG welding experience, GTAW proficiency, and familiarity with ISO 13485 and FDA documentation. You will collaborate with Engineering to improve fixtures and ensure consistent quality in a controlled environment.

Job description

Position Summary

Setup and operate welding equipment to create a finished surface that meets print and customer specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, or repair parts of metal according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, and schematics using manual, automatic or semi-automatic welding equipment.
  • Determine welding requirements, setup and operate welding equipment from print specifications.
  • Partner with Engineering to design weld fixtures and determine best welding method to achieve desired finish and tolerancing of the product.
  • Apply filler rod to molten area to form weld.
  • Sets up and operates metal arc welding equipment to perform routine TIG welding operations.
  • Sets current, gas pressures, and regulates pressure controls.
  • Selects rod, wire, tips, and electrodes for specific operation to be performed.
  • Fits and positions parts in accordance with drawing specification, positions and secures holding devices and tack welds as necessary.
  • Uses care to lay a smooth bead to obtain proper penetration and fusion, avoids burning or distortion of metal, detects defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties.
  • Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them and measuring their dimensions to ensure welding standards and blueprint specifications are met.
  • Follow company work instructions and standard operating procedures for the welding department.
  • Complete assigned jobs in accordance with production timelines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and upkeep on welding equipment and maintain the maintenance logs as required.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, maintains and wears all required PPE.
  • Meet and maintain established production efficiency and effectiveness standards for the welding process.
  • Ensure proper and complete documentation of all required paperwork and production data in ERP system. Maintain all documentation as required.
  • Complete all documentation per ISO 13485 and FDA requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • 5+ years of experience TIG welding stainless steel, titanium and aluminum required.
  • Experience in the GTAW process.
  • Knowledge of commonly used welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control.
  • Experience is ISO/FDA environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and hold tight tolerances.
  • Ability to interpret weld symbols.
  • Proficient in the use of machine shop measuring tools.
  • Proficient in math, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to be highly accurate with a high attention to detail.
  • Sound understanding of the principles of the various products.
  • Possess strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve work issues.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions and ISO & FDA regulations.
  • Ability to repeat the same physical and mental activities over and over.
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, handle stressful situations, multitask and ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively, professionally and constructively.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that can be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Includes exposure to welding fumes, gases, and heat.
  • Includes exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Includes exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Work environment is temperature controlled.
