Job summary

BARNES AEROSPACE, located in Connecticut, is seeking an experienced welder for 1st shift. The role requires GTAW certification, AWS D17.1 knowledge, and 3+ years of welding experience. You will read blueprints, set up machines, inspect welds, and ensure quality and safety in a busy manufacturing cell.

Applicants must pass welding tests for current materials, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with team members to meet production goals. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

  • GTAW welding certification and AWS D17.1 qualification.
  • 3+ years welding experience required.
  • Ability to read weld blueprints and operation sheets.
  • Able to pass welding certification tests for current shop materials.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for welding; cuts, grinds and cleans metal.
  • Read weld blueprints and follow work orders.
  • Set up welding machine for specified materials, thicknesses, and positions.
  • Use weld fixtures and a weld positioner (turntable).
  • Dimensionally inspect welds with calipers, protractors, gauges.
  • Inspect parts for proper assembly and cosmetic defects.
  • Complete required paperwork and logs for each job.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and wear PPE.
  • Maintain neat work area and adhere to compliance policies.

Description

1st Shift: Monday-Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm

Your Expertise:

  • Certification in GTAW; AWS D17.1; PWA 16 (in any group material)
  • 3+ years of welding experience required
  • Pass the welding certification tests for current materials used in the shop
  • Read, interpret, and process blueprints and operation sheets
  • Capable of using all standard bench tools and gauges required for setup, inspection, and welding of assemblies including calipers, height gauges, micrometers, and microscopes
  • Complete required quarterly process control samples
  • Complete logs, check sheets, job orders, and other paperwork for each job performed
  • Maintain a neat and orderly workstation and promote overall good housekeeping practices
  • Able to successfully multitask in manufacturing cell work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office tools
  • Prepare materials for welding; cuts, grinds and cleans metal.

  • Set up the welding machine for specific materials, thicknesses, and positions
  • Using complicated weld fixtures and weld positioner (turntable)
  • Dimensionally inspects welds and other characteristics of parts being welded using tools such as calipers, protractors, and gauges
  • Inspects all parts for proper assembly and cosmetic defects.
  • Work outside department as required
  • Complete tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules and within standard times
  • Follow all safety guidelines and wears all Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Barnes Aerospace’s internal compliance policies and procedures. Take responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent is required
