Job Description: Welder

Assumption, IL, US — Grain & Protein Technologies/ GSI Assumption is seeking a talented, passionate, and highly motivated professional to join as a Welder. The role involves welding materials to specifications from job orders and documentation. The candidate should work well within a team, share perspectives openly, and contribute constructively during meetings. The position is onsite at our Assumption, IL facility.

Your Impact

1. Follow required safety and work procedures.
2. Set up, adjust, program, and perform preventative maintenance on welding equipment and local exhaust systems.
3. Use MIG welding to assemble metal products according to specifications, ensuring minimal delays.
4. Produce strong, penetrated welds that are smooth, non-porous, and consistent.
5. Follow procedures and use jigs and fixtures to assist in assembly and welding.
6. Utilize quality checks to meet product standards.
7. Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S standards.
8. Implement all aspects of Grain & Protein Technologies/ GSI Assumption Lean and Quality Management systems.
9. Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Your Experience and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification in welding preferred.
• Previous welding experience is required.
• Ability to use tools like tape measure, hand grinder, plasma cutter, acetylene torch; read blueprints and tape measures.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and angles.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to follow precise instructions.
• Effective communication skills with peers, managers, and across departments.

Your Benefits

• Reports to: Sr. Production Manager/Production Supervisor.
• Hourly wage starting at $24.89, up to $32.07 depending on experience.
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
• No travel expected.

Workplace Environment

Onsite at Assumption, IL. Employees work near large machinery in noisy, extreme conditions with temperatures from 40°F to 105°F. Physical demands include standing for up to 12 hours, lifting up to 50 pounds, and various physical activities. Vision and protective equipment are required.
