Job summary

BTD Illinois is hiring for a welding position on multiple shifts in Washington, IL. The role requires reading blueprints, fabricating parts, and performing high-quality MIG welds with awareness of AWS standards.

Two years of wire welding and related shop experience are required, along with a 80% welding exam pass and Overhead Hoist Certification. Expect a fast-paced metalworking environment with strong safety emphasis and opportunities on all shifts.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or 18 years of age.
  • Passing score of 80% in Welding Excellence.
  • At least two years of wire welding and related shop experience.
  • Knowledge of basic welding and ability to pass D1.1 2G Horizontal MIG certification.
  • Overhead Hoist Certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints and sketches for fabrication.
  • Manufacture parts by following patterns and paperwork.
  • Use inspection tools (calipers, height gauge) to verify parts.
  • Produce high-quality welds, including multi-pass welds.
  • Weld to AWS standards and utilize rotators for positioning.
  • Operate overhead hoist safely and adapt to production changes.
  • Collaborate to resolve welding issues and keep area clean.
  • Clock in/out via computer and track job counts, including pumps welding.

Essential Functions
  • Ability to visualize and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Manufacture quality parts by referring to the pattern and paperwork.
  • Ability to use the basic inspection equipment (calipers, height gauge, etc.) to inspect parts being produced by the individual.
  • Ability to produce quality welds with the settings the cell was set up with.
  • Ability to produce multi‑pass welds.
  • Ability to produce welds to AWS standards.
  • Ability to utilize rotators for positioning welds.
  • Ability to utilize overhead hoist safely.
  • Ability to adjust to changes in production requirements.
  • Ability to acknowledge problems with the welder and be able to get the correct individual involved.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area by following the clean‑up schedule.
  • Must be able to use the computer software to clock in and out of work and in/out of jobs along with checking job count.
  • Must be able to weld pumps.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Graduation from high school or 18 years of age.
  • Passing score of 80% in the required sections of Welding Excellence.
Experience and Skills Required

At least two years of wire welding and other related mechanical and shop experience which includes the following skills and abilities:

  • Ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to organize and run work in a timely and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of basic Welding, and ability to pass D1.1 2G‑Horizontal MIG welding certification
  • Overhead Hoist Certification

Compensation Salary Range

OTC7: $26.19 - $36.69 per hour for heavy weld; OTC5: $21.68 - $30.35 for light weld. The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(K) match, etc.
