Job summary

City of Sioux Falls is hiring a journeyman welder to perform welding, fabrication, and mechanical work in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of City-owned vehicles and equipment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with a welding program and 3 years of welding experience; AWS GMAW D1.1 is desirable. Willing to work weekends and be able to obtain a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within 90 days.

JOB SUMMARY

Perform journeyman-level welding, fabrication, and mechanical work in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of City-owned vehicles and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or GED certification with completion of a program in welding from a vocational/technical school and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a welder; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.

American Welding Society GMAW D1.1 certification is desired.

Willing to work weekends, holidays, nights, and extended hours in emergencies at times under adverse weather conditions.

Must possess hand tools up to 1 inch in size suitable for repair of light and heavy automotive and construction equipment.

Must possess or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire a valid Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement.
