The welder is responsible for fabricating, repairing, and maintaining metal components of sanitation equipment, such as waste collection trucks, dumpsters, compactors, containers and other related infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication on sanitation equipment, including garbage trucks, dumpsters, and recycling bins.
Repair and reinforce metal structures to ensure the durability and safety of sanitation machinery.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to execute welding tasks efficiently.
Use various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, stick, and arc welding, depending on the project requirements.
Conduct inspections of sanitation equipment and identify areas needing repairs or reinforcement.
Operate welding and cutting equipment such as torches, plasma cutters, and grinders safely.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following all workplace safety regulations and protocols.
Collaborate with mechanics and other team members to ensure timely maintenance and repair of sanitation equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of welding equipment.
Ensure all welded components meet industry standards and quality expectations.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; certification from a welding school or technical program is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of welding experience, preferably in heavy equipment or industrial settings.
Proficiency in MIG, TIG, stick welding, and oxy-fuel cutting.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of workplace safety standards, including OSHA regulations.
Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in outdoor or confined spaces as needed.
Work Environment & Schedule
Work is performed in a workshop, outdoor settings, and on-site at sanitation facilities.
Exposure to heat, fumes, and noise from welding and fabrication equipment.
May require overtime.
