The Welder is responsible for performing welding operations in accordance with production requirements at the Salt Lake City facility. This role includes the setup, preparation, and execution of MIG and/or TIG welds on structural and fabricated metal parts. The Welder will follow blueprints, work instructions, and quality standards to ensure components meet exact tolerances and customer specifications. This role also supports continuous improvement, safety, and workflow efficiency in a team-based manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

- Set up and operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, or other) to complete assigned work orders
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to determine required welds and layouts
- Inspect and prepare materials and components prior to welding to ensure cleanliness and proper fit-up
- Perform welding operations to specified dimensions and tolerances, maintaining consistent weld quality
- Install reinforcements such as hinge plates, strike reinforcements, anchors, gussets, and closer reinforcements
- Identify, mark, and label materials appropriately to support traceability and downstream processes
- Verify dimensional accuracy using measuring tools and inspect completed welds for defects
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and support preventative maintenance of welding equipment
- Follow all OSHA and company-specific safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Participate in cross-training, team meetings, and process improvement initiatives
- Comply with the EHS Policy and attend required safety trainings
- Enforce and adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures and all safety guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of welding certification program or equivalent hands-on welding experience (1–2 years preferred)
- Proficiency in MIG and/or TIG welding required
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings
- Familiarity with hand tools, grinders, clamps, and measuring equipment (calipers, tape measures, etc.)
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of material handling safety practices
- Forklift or overhead crane experience a plus
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Physical Requirements:
- Stand for extended periods of time (6–12 hours)
- Squatting, kneeling and standing frequently.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly
- Use of steps, ladders, and lifting equipment
- Regular exposure to a manufacturing environment, including noise, machinery, and heat, dust/dirt frequently and fumes, vapors and mists occasionally.
