Job description

The Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding on transit vehicle components, subassemblies, and structures according to engineering drawings, weld procedures, and quality standards. This role ensures the structural integrity and durability of vehicle frames, bodies, and related assemblies in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and follow blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding procedures.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, or Flux Core welding (depending on vehicle materials like aluminum, stainless steel, or carbon steel).
  • Assemble and tack weld components using jigs and fixtures.
  • Inspect completed welds for conformance to quality standards and specifications.
  • Use grinders, cutting torches, and other hand tools as needed.
  • Maintain clean and safe working conditions in accordance with company policies.
  • Perform basic maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Collaborate with quality inspectors and engineering teams to resolve welding issues.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and participate in safety training and initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training in welding preferred.
  • 2+ years of welding experience in heavy fabrication or vehicle manufacturing (transit, rail, aerospace, or similar preferred).
  • Certification (e.g., AWS D1.1, D1.2, or D1.6) is a strong asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of welding defects and root causes.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 or similar quality-controlled environments is a plus.
Working Conditions:
  • Manufacturing floor with exposure to noise, fumes, and high temperatures.
  • Use of PPE including welding helmets, gloves, and safety glasses required.
  • Shift work or overtime may be required depending on production schedules.

While we do not typically hire at the top of the salary range, initial offers are based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, with opportunities for growth and increases over time.

Pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
