Job summary

Icon Vehicle Dynamics LLC in Riverside, CA is seeking an experienced welder to join our manufacturing team. You will position parts, weld with torch and filler rod, and inspect weld quality to meet specifications.

The role requires reading job specs, following safety rules, performing routine machine maintenance, and keeping work areas clean. This is a full-time, on-site position with opportunities to grow in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent education.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Basic math: add, subtract, multiply and divide; compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to write routine reports and present to groups.

Responsibilities

  • Position parts in jigs or fixtures and clamp as per layout marks.
  • Weld with torch and filler rod following chart specs.
  • Connect gas regulators and torch; adjust flame and pressure.
  • Inspect welds for bead size and quality.
  • Read specifications to determine machine adjustments.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance and clean parts.
  • Rivet and spot weld as required.
  • Prepare workpieces for finishing and transport.

Description

Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.

Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.

Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders, and welding torch.

Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame.

Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld.

Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.

Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.

Applies flux to workpiece instead of filler rod.

Preheats workpiece in furnace or with torch. Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces.

Welds along vertical or overhead weld lines.

Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal.

Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter.

Cleans or degreases parts.

Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.

Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.

Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.

Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine.

Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.

Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.

Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpiece.

Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.

Assists machine operators to set up machine, and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished workpieces.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Basic Computer Skills including use of email may be required.
