Job summary

Chief Industries is seeking a dedicated welder in Indiana to perform GMAW welding and carbon arc gouging on production materials in accordance with required specifications. This is a full-time, 2nd shift role with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

The position requires adherence to welding codes, successful completion of job-related paperwork, and the ability to work independently or in a team. AWS certifications are preferred, and the company offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in using hand tools and grinding/arc gouging equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.
  • Strong mathematical abilities (fractions and decimals).

Responsibilities

  • Carries out responsibilities with safety and efficiency as a priority and adheres to safety policies.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control standards and maintain required AWS certifications, including meeting or exceeding the 85% UT pass ratio.
  • Operate assigned welding equipment with knowledge of capabilities and codes; handle setup and routine maintenance.
  • Complete job-related paperwork and data entry accurately; work with minimal supervision while maintaining Weld Earned Hour Ratio.
  • Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes) to transport materials safely.
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Responsible for performing GMAW welding processes/Carbon Arc Gouging on production materials in compliance with the required specifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carries out responsibilities with safety and efficiency as a priority. Prioritizes the well‑being of colleagues and actively contributes to the safety program by collaborating, sharing ideas, and voicing concerns. Adheres to training guidelines, policies, and procedures while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Proactively identifies and addresses potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control standards and maintain required AWS certifications, including meeting or exceeding the 85% UT pass ratio.
  • Operate assigned equipment with full knowledge of its capabilities and applicable welding codes, handle machine setup and routine maintenance.
  • Complete all job‑related paperwork and data entry accurately and manage tasks independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining the required weld Earned Hour Ratio.
  • Operates forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment to safely and efficiently transport materials as required.
  • Capable of working independently or as a team with minimum supervision.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for creating a collaborative, safe and hazard free environment that is driven by employee involvement. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to leading departmental continuous improvement projects, supporting and executing all safety and health policies and programs, employee training and incident investigations.

  • Strong mathematical abilities, including working with fractions and decimals.
