Compass Minerals International is seeking a welder/mechanic to perform preventative maintenance, welding, fabrication and repairs on plant equipment at our facilities in the United States. The role supports welding and mechanical duties, inspects machinery, and coordinates with operators to troubleshoot issues while ensuring safety and lock-out procedures are followed.

The basic function of this role includes performing preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment throughout the plant and support efforts of Welder, Mechanic. Tasks include welding, mechanics, and fabrication. Welding will be the primary responsibility of the welder position. However, if welding work is not available, the welder will perform tasks associated with a mechanic’s role.

Testing & Requirements: Employees applying to the welder position will be required to qualify by successfully completing a welding test.
Proficient in Microsoft Applications; ability to learn new software programs.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands/ finger (repetitive motion), walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel, twist, crawl, lift (10lbs-50lbs) reach, communicate, balance. Must frequently lift, push, pull, or carry tools, heavy cables, and materials weighing up to 50lbs., with occasional lifting requirements of 70-80lbs. Frequent standing for long shifts. High manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills required to safely maneuver welding equipment and perform precision welding. Must be able to hold and weld components in awkward or restricted postures, including flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Must possess close-range visual acuity to inspect weld quality and distinguish details in proximity.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, working at heights/high altitudes and extreme heat. Ability to work long 10-12 hour shifts in extreme heat, high humidity. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employee must be able to work shift rotation, wear full body harness when applicable, walk on uneven ground and perform repetitive motion.
