Responsibilities
- Follow best practices for performing work safely, including compliance with all company PPE requirements.
- Move materials safely while operating an overhead crane.
- Prepare and set up welding machines at the beginning of and throughout the work shift.
- Repair and correct welding discontinuities identified by quality control.
- Communicate supply and consumable needs to the area team lead.
- Adhere to all Indiana Steel safety requirements.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area.
- Perform required maintenance and upkeep of equipment and the work area.
- Work in an efficient and productive manner.
Job Requirements
- Three to five years of welding experience preferred.
- Excellent attendance is mandatory. Employees must be at their workstation on time and ready to begin work at the start of the shift.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Ability to work 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday and scheduled six-hour shifts on Fridays.
- Ability to stand for the entire shift.
- Must be coachable and willing to accept guidance and direction.
- Must be flexible and willing to perform tasks requested by the area team lead, including tasks outside the primary job description.
- Familiarity with welding equipment.
- General knowledge of welding fundamentals.
- Ability to qualify and demonstrate proficiency in the company’s Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Ability to adjust welding machine settings to comply with the ranges required by company WPS.
- Understanding of and ability to weld within the limits and tolerances of AWS D1.1 Code.
- Ability to prepare and weld multiple joint types according to AWS standards.
- Expertise in reading and understanding blueprints.
- Knowledge and clear understanding of weld symbols.
