Job summary

A leading company in the Metals Processing sector is seeking a skilled Welder to operate various welding equipment and ensure quality fabrication of parts. The successful candidate will have experience in SMAW welding techniques and a commitment to safety and quality. Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of welding experience or apprenticeship.
  • Experience with machined surfaces and cast iron desired.
  • Overhead crane and hazardous communication training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate welding equipment to fabricate parts.
  • Weld using SMAW techniques for steel and cast.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment.

The Role

Under the direction of The Plant Manager , the Welder is responsible to o perate an Automatic Open-Arc Welding Lathe and portable AC-DC welder. Perform welding of customer rolls to meet customer requirements. Also required to perform specialty welding as requested for RCI maintenance machining projects. Fabricate in-house repair parts for machines and unique tools and equipment for plant operations. Required to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items

  • Set up and operator welding equipment to fabricate parts to customer specifications
  • Study specifications, prints, drawings, or sample prototype to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces and setup requirements.
  • Weld using SMAW techniques both steel and cast
  • Chock removals and burnouts per customer request
  • Verify conformance of finished products to specifications
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete or partial assembly when needed
  • Bend, grind, sand, and finish parts
  • Repair work
  • Operate cutting equipment to fashion and form materials. Use a cutting torch and propane torch for installation and removal of mill roll rings.
  • Select, secure, and align die, fixtures, and attachments for welding.
  • Required to make setups and adjustment to large & small pieces ranging upwards of 100,000 pounds utilizing a 50-ton crane.
  • Knowledge of gauges, micrometers, tolerances, and decimal and metric readout systems is required.
  • Soldering, brazing, and Oxi-fuel cutting when needed
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment. Maintain the welding materials inventory including gases and wire.
  • Maintain safe work habits.
  • Help maintain cleanliness, neatness, and safety of building and work area.

Job Specific Competencies

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to weld to customer specifications.
  • Must be an all-position welder.
  • Making conversions from English to metric and back

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years previous welding experience or welding apprenticeship training
  • Experience welding machined surfaces and cast iron desired.
  • Overhead crane training, hazardous communication training, ISO 9001:2008, and fork truck training preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
