Job summary

Martinrea International Inc. is seeking a Welding Technician to ensure customer and internal welding quality requirements are met. The role involves input on welding concerns, setting parameters for production, and supporting robotic welding activities on a fast-paced shop floor.

The candidate should have welding technologist/technician education, basic GD&T, and experience with welding metallurgy and measurement tools. Overtime and shift flexibility are expected.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary welding technologist/technician education completed.
  • Sound understanding of Welding Metallurgy.
  • Fundamental understanding of NDE techniques.
  • Knowledge of GMAW processes and welding standards.
  • Experience with industrial robots and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform weld inspections and analyze weld data; generate reports.
  • Establish and maintain welding parameters for production and QA.
  • Support robotic weld touchups and PPAP packages when required.
  • Archive and maintain Paxit system records.
  • Assist in training production personnel on quality requirements.

Job Summary:

He/she is responsible for ensuring Martinrea and Customer quality requirements are met by identifying and providing input to resolve welding concerns.

Knowledge and Skills (Education):
  • Post-secondary education - Completion of Welding Technologist/Technician Course from a Community or recognized college consisting of two years or more
  • Sound understanding of Welding Metallurgy
  • Fundamental understanding of NDE techniques
  • Sound understanding of Gas Metal Arc Welding, Projection and Resistance Welding
  • Manual GMAW experience
  • Working experience with industrial robots
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Must be willing to work shifts and be flexible (including overtime on short notice)
  • Ability to work well with fellow team members and promote "Team" concept
  • Basic knowledge of ISO/TS 16949:2002 an asset
  • Basic knowledge and use of measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators and height gauges)
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Understanding of Core Skills and basic GD&T
  • Basic understanding of CMM
Major Accountabilities:
  • Perform all duties and promote them in a manner that reflects the Martinrea Expectations, through Martinrea Employee Charter.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Support the WEC's on new and existing programs
  • Support Buy off's when required
  • Keep the product cleaned up in quarantine
  • Establish, maintain and implement welding parameters to support production and Quality Assurance
  • Conducts weld inspection and analyze weld data, generate reports
  • Assist with Robotic weld touchups
  • Archiving and maintaining Paxit system
  • Be dedicated to generating and or assisting in PPAP packages when required
  • Maintain a sound understanding of customers product and engineering specifications
  • Participate in problem solving activities
  • Participate in Product, System and Process Audits as required
  • Assist in the training of production personnel in all quality requirements when required
  • Attend and or Champion quality meetings when requested
  • Provide support to all Departments for weld related issues
  • Cover for the other Technicians if he/she is absent
Decision Making and Authority:
  • Generating and upkeep of the Weld Set up Instructions, Weld Inspection Records and Weld Length records
  • Ability to work well in a team environment or individually
  • Audit and approve Special Material Requests and reworked material when required
  • Initiate and coordinate problem reports and containments
  • Buy off of the First-Off / Mid-Off processes, and set up verifications to ensure it is being done correctly
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to achieve results
  • Take initiative to follow through on completion of tasks / projects, PMR's and CIP's
Working Conditions:
  • 10% office,90% plant floor (PPE required)
Effort/Physical Demands
  • Constant communication with employees, peers, and management
  • Overtime as required
