Job summary

Arcosa Wind Towers, Inc in Newton, IA is seeking a Weld Technician to train, instruct and test welders, and to join, surface, fabricate and repair parts using various welding equipment. You will read blueprints and procedures to lay out pieces and ensure quality welds.

You will inspect welds, participate in safety practices, train new welders, and assist plant management with welding-related issues while maintaining compliance with AWS/ASME codes as applicable.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 3 years of production welding experience.
  • Able to pass welding qualifications for listed processes within 4 weeks.
  • 2 years of training experience for production welding operators.
  • Knowledge of NDT VT/UT/MT/PT.

Responsibilities

  • Train, instruct, and test welders in metal joining and machine operation.
  • Lay out pieces using jigs/fixtures and weld per blueprints and specs.
  • Inspect completed welds for conformance and assist with maintenance.
  • Read Weld Procedure Specifications and customer requirements.
  • Assist in safety committees and adhere to safety rules.

Arcosa Wind Towers is looking for a Weld Technician. This position is considered a crucial resource for general manufacturing safety principles and all welding specific safety requirements; you will train, instruct, and test welders in metal joining and machine operation. As a Weld Technician you will use jigs/fixtures to lay-out pieces to be welded according to blueprints, layouts, schematics, or work orders using manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. You may also be required to inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and perform minor maintenance to equipment.

Job Location: Newton, IA

What you’ll do:
  • Complying with all safe work practices for heavy weld, assembly, and paint fabrication and act as a safety advocate
  • Conducting audits of welding operators and process best practice safety for welding
  • The troubleshooting of welding process and equipment related issues
  • Identifying areas for improvement and testing new welding processes
  • Working closely with plant management to track and address welding-related issues.
  • Reading and understand all Weld Procedure Specifications and customer welding requirements
  • Visually analyze welds to determine welder training needs
  • Help with class training of new welders
  • Completing the required documentation and records as required
  • Verification of welding power supply energy delivery (calibration of welding equipment)
  • Comply with all safety rules and procedures
  • May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What you’ll need:
  • High School diploma or GED is preferred
  • 3 years of production welding experience
  • Experience operating the following welding processes
    • GMAW
    • FCAW
    • GTAW (Tulsa only)
    • SAW
  • Must be able to pass welding qualification for the above-listed process within 4 weeks
  • 2 years experience in the training of production welding operators
  • Understanding of the following NDT processes: VT, UT, MT, and PT
  • Work under the Welding supervisor’s direction with minimal oversight and supervision
  • Ability to provide clear, explicit verbal directions and create a positive learning environment
  • The ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, walk, climb stairs, ladders and catwalks up to 60 feet as required
  • Direct application of AWS (and ASME Section IV codes for Tulsa only) code welding preferred
  • Formal weld training from an accredited school preferred
  • Robotic or hard automation welding system experience preferred
Working Conditions:
  • Hourly position, this position will require the candidate to be available for all four (4) shifts
  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production and non-production areas, and plant grounds which operate four (4) shifts and frequent weekend shifts
  • This position may require work/maintenance coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays
  • Ability to tolerant both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant.

  • Be aware of and observe all safety practices. Including but not limited to- Safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection, etc… as required
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned.
