Job summary

Meyer Utility Structures, a subsidiary of Arcosa, is seeking a Plant Welding Technician for our Gadsden, AL facility. The role provides welding support, troubleshooting, process improvements, and training to production teams and is critical for ensuring welding quality and procedural conformance.

You will oversee pole school operations, maintain training/qualification records, and conduct hands-on and classroom training in FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and gouging processes.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years FCAW, SAW, SMAW welding experience.
• Ability to read welding symbols and welding procedure specifications.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding standard and welding materials.
• Proven training and documentation skills.
• Strong written and oral communication abilities.
• Regular and predictable attendance and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide welding support to production welders and supervisors.
• Troubleshoot welding technique and equipment issues.
• Maintain welder continuity and equipment calibration; log flux oven usage.
• Lead welding process improvements for efficiency and quality.

Job description

Meyer Utility Structuresis searching for aPlant Welding Technician. In this role, you will provide the Gadsden, AL utility pole manufacturing plant with welding and technical support such as welding process troubleshooting, welding process improvement, and procedure and code conformance. The Plant Welding Technician will have strong hands-on welding skills, visual weld inspection experience, and experience using welding procedure specifications.

What You'll Do:

• As the welding subject matter expert, provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel.
• Troubleshoot welding technique and routine equipment issues.
• Perform routine tasks such as maintaining welder continuity, welding equipment calibration, and flux oven logs.
• Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and quality.
• Perform welding training on the shop floor and in a classroom setting as required.
• Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required.
• Participate in internal improvement teams/other duties as required.
• Oversee the daily pole school operations.
• Maintain welder candidate training, testing and qualification records.
• Perform hands on welder candidate training for the FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes.
• Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
• Perform hands on, pole layout and fit up training.
• Provide additional training (OJT) to production welders as required.
• Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required.
• Participate in welding improvement projects/other duties as required.

What You’ll Need:

• Must be able to work weekday nights or weekend shift.
• 3 - 5 years FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience.
• Proficient using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
• Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification.
• Working knowledge of weld filler materials and base materials.
• Possess written and oral communication skills.
• Regular and predictable attendance, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.
