Job summary

Meyer Utility Structures, a subsidiary of Arcosa, Inc., operates a Gadsden, AL welding plant seeking a Plant Welding Technician to provide hands-on welding support, troubleshoot processes, and drive quality improvements on the shop floor.

The role requires strong welding skills, experience with FCAW, SAW, and SMAW, and the ability to train staff and maintain qualification records. Teamwork and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience.
• Proficient with welding inspection tools and gauges.
• Able to read welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, and drawings.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel.
• Troubleshoot welding technique and routine equipment issues.
• Maintain welder continuity, welding equipment calibration, and flux oven logs.
• Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and quality.
• Perform welding training on the shop floor and in a classroom setting as required.
• Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required.
• Oversee daily pole school operations.
• Maintain welder candidate training, testing and qualification records.
• Perform hands-on welder candidate training for FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes.
• Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
• Perform hands-on pole layout and fit-up training.
• Provide additional training (OJT) to production welders as required.

Meyer Utility Structuresis searching for aPlant Welding Technician. In this role, you will provide the Gadsden, AL utility pole manufacturing plant with welding and technical support such as welding process troubleshooting, welding process improvement, and procedure and code conformance. The Plant Welding Technician will have strong hands-on welding skills, visual weld inspection experience, and experience using welding procedure specifications.

What You'll Do:

• As the welding subject matter expert, provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel.

What You’ll Need:

• Must be able to work weekday nights or weekend shift.
• 3 - 5 years FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience.
• Proficient using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
• Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification.
• Working knowledge of weld filler materials and base materials.
• Possess written and oral communication skills.
• Regular and predictable attendance, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.
