Job summary

Arcosa Inc. is seeking a Plant Welding Technician at the Clinton, IL facility to provide welding support, troubleshoot techniques, and drive process improvements.

You will train shop-floor personnel and help qualify welding procedures to ensure code conformance and high-quality welds across FCAW, SAW, and SMAW processes. The role requires hands-on welding, inspection skill, and the ability to work with drawings, symbols, and WPS docs in a team-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years FCAW, SAW, SMAW welding experience.
  • Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, procedures and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedures.
  • Proficient with weld inspection tools and QA records.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience with welding procedure specifications is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide welding support to production welders and supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot welding technique and equipment issues.
  • Maintain welder continuity and calibrate equipment.
  • Evaluate and implement welding process improvements.
  • Perform welding training on shop floor and in classroom.
  • Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications.
  • Oversee daily pole school operations.
  • Maintain welder candidate training, testing and qualification records.
  • Provide hands-on training for FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, gouging.
  • Conduct classroom training on safety, welding processes, symbols, drawings.

Job description

Meyer Utility Structures (MUS)is searching for aPlant Welding Technician. In this role, you will provide the Clinton, IL utility pole manufacturing plant with welding and technical support such as welding process troubleshooting, welding process improvement, and procedure and code conformance. The Plant Welding Technician will have strong hands-on welding skills, visual weld inspection experience, and experience using welding procedure specifications.

What You'll Do
  • As the welding subject matter expert, provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel
  • Troubleshoot welding technique and routine equipment issues
  • Perform routine tasks such as maintaining welder continuity, welding equipment calibration, and flux oven logs
  • Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and quality
  • Perform welding training on the shop floor and in a classroom setting as required
  • Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required
  • Participate in internal improvement teams/other duties as required
  • Oversee the daily pole school operations
  • Maintain welder candidate training, testing and qualification records
  • Perform hands on welder candidate training for the FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes
  • Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
  • Perform hands on, pole layout and fit up training
  • Provide additional training (OJT) to production welders as required
  • Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required
  • Participate in welding improvement projects/other duties as required
What You'll Need
  • Must be able to work first shift
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) desired
  • 3 - 5 years FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience
  • Proficient using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
  • Welding related associate degree desired
  • Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification
  • Working knowledge of weld filler materials and base materials
  • Possess written and oral communication skills.
  • Regular and predictable attendance, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
