Job summary

Multimatic seeks a qualified welder to join our Indiana facility. You will perform MIG weld repairs on metal components, inspect against control plans, and document production data in the inventory system using barcode scanners.

You will also label finished parts accurately and maintain a clean, safe work area. The role requires a HS diploma (GED acceptable), MIG welding experience, and the ability to read instructions and work with team members in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent required.
  • Experience with MIG welding preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Weld Repair on metal components using MIG methods.
  • Use checking fixtures and measuring/gauging equipment to test compliance to customer requirements.
  • Count and label finished components and record production information accurately.
  • Enter accurate information into inventory system using bar coding scanners.
  • Ensure production paperwork is filled out accurately and on time.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervision.
  • Inspect assemblies using fixtures, gauges, tools or visual inspection aids.
  • Follow control plans and work in accordance with company, quality & safety specifications.
  • Keep work area and machines clean and safe at all times.
  • Point out problems related to quality, productivity or safety.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks like tip changes and setup of equipment.
  • Perform finished goods inspection per control plan and operator instructions.
  • Work safely and comply with IATF TS16949 and ISO14001 standards.

Basic Requirements
  • Interested to work in either a 2nd or 3rd shift.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience with MIG Welding
  • Holds an AWS Certification is a plus.
  • Two (2) years related experience in an automotive manufacturing or similar manufacturing environment is a plus
  • The ability to safely operate any and all equipment as necessary
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team or on single operations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must be flexible with working hours
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
TRAINING/DISQUALIFICATION
  • Associates, who receive a job transfer/promotion will be trained and evaluated in their new position. The actual length of training is dependent upon the position/job assigned and the individuals’ ability to learn and perform the required duties.
  • During the training period, the associates’ performance typically will be evaluated and a performance evaluation completed at 30, 60 and 90-day intervals. Criterion utilized for the performance evaluation process may include but is not limited to: compliance with safety and quality standards/procedures, job knowledge, dependability/adaptability, resourcefulness, team work, productivity, and housekeeping 6S.
  • If an individual needs further training or improvement at the conclusion of the 90-day evaluation period the training/job evaluation period may be extended an additional 30 days. Promoted/transferred individuals are expected to maintain a satisfactory level of performance in all areas of evaluation. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the classification/position.
  • If, during the 90-day training period, an associate is unable to perform to level expected by the Company or resigns from a position, the associate may not be eligible for reapplying for the same position without demonstrating an improvement of their skill and ability from consideration for that position for one (1) year, and will return to their previously held position; seniority and availability permitting. If they do not have the seniority to hold their previous position, they will be assigned to another available position as needed, provided they can successfully perform the work. A disqualification and/or resignation from any job award, may affect an individuals’ future promotional considerations.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One to three months related experience and/or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to safely and effectively operate machinery; and material handling equipment within orientation period. The ability to pass post examinations for position required training.
Language Skills
  • The ability to read and comprehend written work instructions. The ability to write effective correspondence. The ability to write and interpret work instructions and work procedures. The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Effectively represent the company professionally to customers, suppliers and other associates within the organization.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • The ability to add and subtract three digit numbers, multiply and divide. The ability to use and accurately read micrometers, dial calipers, digital indicators, tape measure, feeler gages, and taper gages in standard and metric measurements.
REASONING ABILITY
  • The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
