Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is hiring for a 2nd shift spot-w welding operator in Walker, MI. The role focuses on welding/reworking sheet metal components, with responsibilities including machine operation, calibration, and precise paperwork within ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English to safely perform duties.
  • Self-motivated with strong task prioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a spot-welding machine to join or repair sheet metal/steel parts or components.
  • Calibrate welding equipment.
  • Maintain tools in good working order.
  • Follow safety procedures and work instructions.
  • Tag parts and move them to correct locations in the plant.
  • Participate in preventative actions where appropriate.
  • Use Plexus ERP system for data entry and tracking.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.

Being part of an ESOP means our employee-owners share in Challenge’s success!Challenge is #QualityDriven and #PeoplePowered!Who We Want:Repair parts/components that are non-conforming to customer specification by welding, grinding, or other methods as required.What You'll Do:Operate a spot-welding machine to join or repair sheet metal/steel parts or componentsCalibrate welding equipmentMaintain tools in good working orderPerform all work in accordance with established safety proceduresTag partsMove parts to correct location in the plant/facilityParticipate in preventative actions where appropriateUtilization of plexus (ERP system)Conduct housekeeping for personal work area or shared facility spaceMaintain welding equipmentWhen and Where:This will be a 2nd Shift / M-F 2:30PM-10:30PM position located at our Plant in Walker, MI.Occasionally, this may require you to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends, outside of our regular hours, to ensure we successfully meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.What You Need to Have:High School Graduate or equivalentAbility to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.3-5 years in relevant work experienceCertified in MIG and/or TIG weldingHas high standards of performance for self. Takes responsibility for actions, results, and mistakes. Is thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks; demonstrates honesty and integrity in all aspects of work.Able to be self-motivated and prioritize tasks as assignedTakes positive action to objectively resolve conflict by listening, staying focused on issue to find resolution, and monitoring progress.
