Job summary

Chart, Inc. in Theodore, Alabama is seeking a Weld Engineer to develop, maintain, and implement weld processes for the Theodore facility.

You will collaborate with design engineering, quality, drafting, and production management to resolve production issues and drive continuous improvement. Requirements include a BS in welding or related field and at least 3 years of welding engineering experience, with familiarity across GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and SMAW and basic NDE knowledge.

Qualifications

• Minimum BS degree in Weld Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences.
• Minimum 3 years' experience as Weld Engineer in shop production or field construction.
• Familiarity with fundamentals of statistical control.
• Familiarity with GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW and SMAW weld processes for aluminum, stainless and carbon steel.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, Word and weld programs such as C-Spec.
• Demonstrated management or leadership abilities.
• Familiarity with NDE basics including RT, UT, LPT, MPT and VT.

Responsibilities

• Assign and control WPS/PQR/WPQR on aluminum, stainless and carbon steel alloys with related filler metals and shielding gases in compliance with ASME IX, EN 15614-1,2 and AWS D1.1 using GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW and SMAW.
• Control and maintain WPQ's and continuity/prolongation logs for various GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW and SMAW processes.
• Identify and resolve production problems related to design engineering, quality control, drafting, sales and supervision.
• Provide ongoing testing, training, process implementation or shop floor support.
• Specify and generate AFE for welding equipment purchases for process improvement and capacity.
• Issue purchase orders for welding equipment as required.
• Provide reports on shop floor activities and projects implemented.
