  • Strong communication and teamwork; ability to travel 0–25%.

Responsibilities

  • Review designs, weld symbols, procedures, WIs, and code requirements.
  • Develop weld maps and sequence maps to ensure high-quality, low-distortion welds.
  • Assist with welding estimates/proposals for weldments.
  • Participate in weld qualifications (PQR, WPS, PQTR).
  • Review supplier manufacturing plans and conduct on-site quality audits.

JOB SUMMARY

Mavericks Manufacturing Partners, Inc. is a best-in-class welding and metal additive manufacturing (AM) company specializing in the manufacturing of weldments for critical applications in a variety of high-end markets. Examples of applications are critical fleet (US Navy), spacecraft and satellites, aerospace, clean tech, alternative energy, semiconductor, AGtech, medical devices, and nuclear components.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an entry-level Weld & Manufacturing Engineer to join our team located in Escondido, CA (north of San Diego).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • With direction, this position will function in support of tactical objectives and produce well-structured documented work plans and procedures that ensure work order needs are met.
  • Responsible for making contributions towards the goal of establishing a “best in class” Welding Center of Excellence.
  • Review Design drawings and associated technical documentation for correct weld symbol and welding process, procedures, Manufacturing Work Instructions, and Code application requirements.
  • Develops weld maps, weld sequence maps, and supporting documentation for ensuring high quality and low distortion welds are achieved.
  • Support estimating/proposal activities with respect to weldments.
  • With direction, participate in weld qualification activities, such as Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), Performance Qualification Test Record (PQTR).
  • Review Supplier manufacturing plans and documentation, as needed.
  • Resolve manufacturing issues and non-conformances.
  • With direction, perform on-site audits at suppliers to control quality, as needed.
  • With direction, establish control plans/processes for welding operations.
  • Troubleshoots, analyzes, and repairs systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • With direction, develops statements of work (SOW) and request for quotes (RFQ) as well as coordinates with external vendors to establish new capabilities or expand capacity.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • Provides technical direction for the activities of welders and technicians related to work orders in the shop.
  • May represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Develops manufacturing bills of materials (mBOM) for work orders.
  • Develop shop routers and work instructions.
  • Designs and coordinates procurement/fabrication of unique fixtures and tooling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent manufacturing and/or engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Desire experience with two (2) or more of the following welding standards and Codes, such as AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6, D17.1, and ASME Section IX.
  • Desire a strong understanding of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Laser Beam Welding (LBW) processes. Previous hands-on experience and certifications with these welding processes is a plus.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks within the manufacturing engineering discipline.
  • Must be Windows Operating System software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) proficient.
  • Must be proficient in CAD software, such as SolidWorks.
  • Able to walk for long periods of time, stoop, squat, climb, and work extended hours and weekends as required.
  • Certifications in Lean Six Sigma and American Welding Society (AWS) are a plus.
  • Robotic programming and welding experience is desired.
  • Must be able to travel as required.
