Job summary

Magna International is seeking a Welding Engineer to provide expert welding support in the welding lab, including guidance on tooling, equipment, and process compliance. You will develop training and certificates for production staff in robotic and GMAW/TIG welding, and create work instructions for weld fit-up, welds, and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide welding expertise to the welding lab, including personnel, equipment, documents, and records of compliance.
  • Support Engineering and QA teams with welding expertise for existing and new customer programs.
  • Develop and implement training programs for production associates in robotic and GMAW/TIG welding techniques and procedures.
  • Develop and implement work instructions for part fit-up, tack, weld, and repair requirements.
  • Develop and implement parameters for weld length, leg length, throat length, penetration, and quality for welded automotive assemblies.
  • Train maintenance technicians in troubleshooting and repair of robotic GMAW welding equipment.
  • Train for troubleshooting and problem solving of welding issues.
  • Participate in APQP processes relating to welding cells and tooling design.
  • Recommend design changes to improve quality, reliability, and productivity of welding processes.
  • Develop and implement documents and procedures for validation of welding equipment and processes to meet customer specs.
  • Supervise and manage the setup and programming of robots for welding.
  • Promote continual improvement in weld quality and weld processes.
  • Maintain weld drawings.
  • Achieve department objectives in support of production, quality, and safety goals.
  • Collaborate with QA, Engineering and Production to improve methods and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with company personnel, customers, and vendors.
  • Attend department meetings, plant meetings, and training; participate in customer visits as designated.
  • Support new program launches and customer expectations.
  • Provide reports as required by Engineering Manager or other departments.
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities.
  • Adhere to customer requirements, B.O.S., and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITIONS:
  • Provide technical welding expertise to the welding lab, including personnel, equipment, documents, and records of compliance. Evaluate and make recommendations regarding current and new weld assembly processing, tooling, and equipment.
  • Provide Engineering and Quality Assurance personnel as assigned with welding expertise to support existing and new customer programs.
  • Develop and implement training and certification program for production associates in robotic and hand GMAW/TIG welding techniques and procedures.
  • Develop and implement work instructions for part fit-up, tack, weld, and repair requirements.
  • Develop and implement parameters for weld length, leg length, throat length, penetration, and structural quality for welded automotive assemblies.
  • Develop and implement a training program for maintenance technicians in the troubleshooting and repair of robotic GMAW welding equipment.
  • Develop and implement a training program for troubleshooting and problem solving of welding issues.
  • Participated in APQP processes relating to the design of welding assembly work cells and tooling.
  • Recommend design changes to improve quality, reliability, and productivity of welding processes.
  • Develop and implement documents and procedures for validation of welding equipment and processes to meet or exceed customer specifications.
  • Supervise and manage the setup and programming of robots for welding.
  • Promote continual improvement in weld quality and weld processes.
