Sims Metal is seeking a Non-Ferrous Scale Operator to accurately operate scales in a warehouse or outdoor setting. You will ensure correct weights, materials, and customer data, while delivering strong customer service.

This role requires precise data entry, adherence to safety standards, and teamwork across departments. It is a customer-facing position with responsibilities including loading/unloading and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in scrap or recycling operations is preferred.
  • Crane Operator certification is required or preferred depending on location.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately inspect and process inbound and outbound materials, ensuring proper weights, material descriptions, and grades.
  • Determine material upgrades and enter accurate data into the inventory system.
  • Assist with material sorting and processing as needed.
  • Support loading and unloading of vehicles.
  • Maintain precise and complete documentation of all scale transactions.
  • Communicate material discrepancies promptly to Operations Managers.
  • Follow detailed specifications for outbound loads.
  • Adhere to all company safety and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Non- Ferrous Scale Operator is responsible for accurately operating scales within a warehouse or outdoor environment. This role ensures all scale tickets are complete and accurate, reflecting the correct customer information, material types, and weights. As a customer-facing position, it requires strong communication and excellent customer service skills.
