Job summary

Memorial Health System - Ohio in Marietta, OH is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will prepare sterile instruments, assist with counts, gown and drape the surgical team, and maintain a sterile field throughout procedures.

The position requires a Surgical Technology program completion and certification or at least 3 years’ surgical technologist experience, with BLS certification and compliance with RQI. Flex-time scheduling is available.

Qualifications

• Completion of Surgical Technology program and certification as a Surgical Technologist, or 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist with willingness to obtain certification within one year.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure including scrubs, gowns and gloves.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Helps in draping sterile field.
• Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure.
• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
• Prepares sterile dressings.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists in terminal cleaning of room and prepping for next patient.
• Obtains sterile and unsterile items needed for procedure.
• Opens sterile supplies.
• Caes for specimens.
• Secures dressings after incision closure.

Job DetailsJob Location: Marietta, OH 45750Position Type: Flex TimeJob Shift: Varies as scheduledJob Category: Allied HealthIn an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in the operating room scope of activities while supporting the medical and nursing plan of care to patients. The Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The position has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon while having the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

QualificationsMinimum Education/Experience Required:

• Completion of Surgical Technology program and certified as a Surgical Technologist or 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist and willing to obtain certification within one year of employment.
• The Surgical Technologist certification for current employees in a Surgical Technologist position prior to 3/28/18 will be grandfathered in and will not be required.
• BLS certification required.
• Maintains compliance in RQI required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
