Job summary

St. Louis County is seeking a Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for shelter residents in a large-scale institutional kitchen. You will maintain a clean, safe cooking environment and ensure meals meet health standards, while supporting the county’s mission to provide equitable services.

The role offers weekend daytime shifts (Saturdays and Sundays, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.) with a starting hourly wage of $15.56, and may be funded in whole or part by grant funds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a large-scale institution cooking or similar setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals for shelter residents following established menus and nutritional guidelines.
• Ensure safe operation of institutional kitchen equipment.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness, sanitation, and food-handling standards.
• Follow established policies and procedures regarding storage, rotation, and preparation of food.
• Communicate with the Lead Cook to coordinate weekend meal service.
• Support holiday meal preparation or accept optional additional hours when available.
