Job summary

The University of Virginia Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to evaluate, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions across diverse clinical settings. You will deliver therapies, manage ventilation, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the care team to support stabilization and recovery.

This role emphasizes patient and family education, precise documentation, and participation in multidisciplinary rounds.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program.
• 12 months of acute/critical care Respiratory Therapy clinical experience.
• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Virginia licensure; BLS; NBRC Specialty Credential expected within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions across clinical environments.
• Deliver respiratory therapies and interventions per physician orders and protocols.
• Assess respiratory status and adjust treatments based on presentation and response to therapy.
• Manage and monitor mechanical ventilation, oxygen delivery, and airway support devices.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the care team to develop and implement care plans.
• Provide patient and family education on respiratory conditions and equipment; document care for continuity and safety.
