Job summary

UPMC Horizon - Shenango Valley Outpatient Center is seeking a Patient Associate (Phlebotomist) to greet patients and support a smooth outpatient experience. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection, and patient education, with a friendly, professional demeanor and HIPAA-compliant operations.

The role offers a flex full-time schedule (28–40 hours weekly), primarily daylight hours Monday–Friday, and occasional Saturday shifts.

Qualifications

Phlebotomy experience and/or education preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in patient registration and EKGs/specimen procurement preferred.
Medical terminology knowledge and computer experience preferred.
Good oral and written communication skills with hospital contacts and patients.
Skilled in the use of hospital computer systems.

Responsibilities

Obtain patient consent and handle financial responsibilities per HIPAA.
Present professional appearance and etiquette in interactions.
Perform and document EKGs and collect specimens by venipuncture, swab, heelstick or fingerstick.
Maintain rapport with medical staff and patients; support department operations.
Educate patients on collection procedures and ensure accurate data entry.
Process laboratory specimens, requisitions, and orders from internal and external facilities.
Support billing processes and collect patient payments at time of service.
Work in a fast-paced outpatient center and promote a positive hospital image.
